Colour Imaging
Marius Pedersen (1983) is a professor in Colour Imaging at the Department of Computer Science, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). He is also the leader for the unit Colourlab and deputy for Gjøvik for the head of department. His research interests are in colour imaging, with applications to graphic arts, medical, security, and more.
Background:
Marius Pedersen has Bachelor of Computer Engineering in Computer technology (2006) and a Master of Technology in Media Technology (2007), both from Gjøvik University College. He has also completed a one-year program in education from Lillehammer University College (2007). He received his Ph.D. in colour imaging from the University of Oslo in 2011.
Research:
Pedersen has leadership experience from a number of research projects, such as FRIPRO, IKTPLUSS and INTPART from the Research Council of Norway. He has published more than 75 journal publications and more than 140 conference publications. He has been main supervisor for 9 Ph.D. students and co-supervisor for 11 Ph.D. students. Pedersen has also supervised 23 master theses, 15 bachelor theses, and a number of other projects. Pedersen was a part of NTNU's Outstanding Academic Fellows Programme for young researchers who have excelled internationally in their fields of research (2019-2023). Pedersen has had a number of roles in international conferences, such as general chair for the Color and Imaging Conference in 2018. Since 2014 he has been associate editor for the Journal of Imaging Science and Technology. Pedersen was also part of establishing the spin-off company VidiPix AS in 2020.
Teaching:
Pedersen has been course responsible at the master and Ph.D. in the field of colour imaging. He has given a number of courses for industry and at conferences. Since 2018 he has been responsible for the courses for exchange students at the unit in Gjøvik. In the period 2012-2017 he was project leader and academic coordinator for the Norwegian-French master program 3D multimedia technology. He is currently the leader for the HK-DIR project "Academic partnership for excellence in color science" (2023-2026).
He has led the research group Colourlab since 2012. In the period from 2017 to 2021 he has the deputy head for the department of computer science. From 2017 to 2022 he as the leader for the unit IDI Gjøvik. Since 2022 he has been the unit leader for Colourlab as well as the deputy head for Gjøvik for the head of department. He has since 2017 been a member of the campus council at NTNU in Gjøvik.
